News & tips for December 2020

News & tips for December 2020 name

I wanted to share this photo of our beloved warehouse cat Black for the final newsletter of the year as I think it sums up how many of us have felt about 2020! I wish I could have buried my head (not in a folder mind you) and hidden from the world but that wasn’t an option. We have all had our trials this year, not the least of which was Covid. During the lockdown in April, Newton Seed lost our beloved Jimmy to cancer. Jimmy worked for Newton’s in our retail shop for 14 years, 10 of those years were fulltime, a couple of years part time and then periodically after he finally retired. He was loved and respected by customers and staff alike and boy what a gardener! We will miss Jimmy always.

However, as we reach the end of 2020, I am optimistic that there are better times ahead. We already have some things to look forward to. It started to rain in Auckland and while we are not technically out of a drought, we can use a hose with a spray attachment. We have a vaccine for Covid and we probably (fingers crossed) will be able to cross the ditch by the end of March.

But the thing we are most looking forward to is a summer break, as all our staff have worked incredibly hard this year. We will close from midday 24 December and reopen on 11 January. Any orders made online over this period will not be processed until we come back, so make sure you have enough seed to get you through. Given the problems we have had with the couriers over the last couple of weeks, we cannot guarantee a pre-Xmas delivery of online or phone orders after today. So, if you really need something we urge you to use our click and collect facility.

And finally, thank you to our wonderful customers. You kept us going by your continued and unwavering support. We never forget that without you, there is no Newton Seed.

From all of us here at Newton's, have a safe, merry and restful Christmas, see you in 2021!
