Good potatoes start with good seed. Whether you're planting a few rows or a full backyard plot, our certified seed potatoes give you the best possible head start.
Some tips to planting seed potatoes
- After purchasing your seed potatoes, spread in a dry, bright, cool area, away from direct sunlight. Allow sprouts to develop approximately 1 -2 cm in length.
- Dig rows approximately 15cm deep and 60cm apart. Apply Newtons Potato Booster Fertiliser, mix into the soil so the rows become 10cm deep. This protects the sprouts from fertiliser burn.
- Place your Seed Potatoes 25cm apart in the row and cover the seed carefully with sprouts facing up
- When the plants reach 5 - 10cm, mound soil around the plants. This protects the potatoes from greening and insect damage. Fertiliser can be re-appplied at this time
- Water regularly to ensure soil is kept moist
- Keep the potato bed free of weeds
- Store harvested potatoes in a cool dark place
