Red Shallots

Shallots are a hardy, mild flavoured gourmet onion variety.

Plant in Winter or early spring in well drained soil in full sun. Bulbs should be placed 5 cm deep, (or with tips poking out) allowing 15 -20 cm spacing. Keep soil moist, not wet as excessive moisture leads to downy mildew. Feed every 3-4 weeks in spring. Harvest in Summer/ Autumn when tops die back and turn yellow. Dry in the sun for 2-3 weeks after harvest, then store in a cool, dark well ventilated space.
